Mónica Montero is a journalist and visual storyteller based in Galicia, Spain. Her work focuses on migration, human rights and the protection of cultural heritage. She grew up in a Spanish-Korean home where kimchi and Cervantes went hand in hand. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French.

She received a Pulitzer Center fellowship that allowed her to travel to Calais, northern France, to report on whether the UK's controversial Rwanda Asylum Plan could deter the growing number of people attempting to cross the English Channel.

She holds a Master's Degree in Journalism with honors from Columbia University, where she specialized in visual storytelling. Her work has been published in Al Jazeera, El País, T Magazine, among others. Her articles can be seen at www.monica-montero.com.
